Karin Schmidt-Friderichs

After study­ing archi­tec­ture, Karin Schmidt-Frid­erichs (*1960) worked both as an employed and as a free­lance archi­tect, before join­ing her hus­band Bertram Schmidt-Frid­erichs in found­ing  the pub­lish­ing com­pa­ny Her­mann Schmidt. Today, Bertram Schmidt is recog­nised as one of the most pres­ti­gious address­es for the pub­li­ca­tion of books with a focus on design and cre­ativ­i­ty. Schmidt-Frid­erichs is in great demand as con­sul­tant, coach and lec­tur­er, and also holds a first super­vi­so­ry board mandate.


In addi­tion, from 2011 until 2016, Karin Schmidt-Frid­erichs served as chair­woman of the foun­da­tion Buchkun­st, and is a mem­ber of the Art Direc­tors Club Ger­many, the Inter­na­tion­al Soci­ety of Typo­graph­ic Design­ers and in the Ger­man Design­er Club.


In 2014, Karin and Bertram Schmidt Frid­erichs were hon­oured with the Order of Mer­it by the Min­is­ter Pres­i­dent of Rhineland-Palati­nate, for their com­mit­ment to cul­ture and the arts. In 2018 they were hon­ored with the Anti­quar­ia Prize.
