After studying architecture, Karin Schmidt-Friderichs (*1960) worked both as an employed and as a freelance architect, before joining her husband Bertram Schmidt-Friderichs in founding the publishing company Hermann Schmidt. Today, Bertram Schmidt is recognised as one of the most prestigious addresses for the publication of books with a focus on design and creativity. Schmidt-Friderichs is in great demand as consultant, coach and lecturer, and also holds a first supervisory board mandate.

 

In addition, from 2011 until 2016, Karin Schmidt-Friderichs served as chairwoman of the foundation Buchkunst, and is a member of the Art Directors Club Germany, the International Society of Typographic Designers and in the German Designer Club.

 

In 2014, Karin and Bertram Schmidt Friderichs were honoured with the Order of Merit by the Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate, for their commitment to culture and the arts.In 2018 they were honored with the Antiquaria Prize.
